چکیده

Cryptosporidium sp. is a zoonotic intestinal protozoa in orangutans which transmitted through contaminated water (waterborne disease). This study aims to determine infects the sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) and bornean pygmaeus) North Sumatera Wildlife Park. The samples used were 3 fecal from different locations, two Medan Park one Pematang Siantar Animal Samples examined using floatation method modified Ziehl-Neelsen method. results showed that of feces (sumatran orangutan), 2 positive tails found containing oocysts, namely C. parvum species. In this study, it can be concluded Park, infected with cryptosporidiosis.

Canopy structure drives orangutan habitat selection in disturbed Bornean forests.

The conservation of charismatic and functionally important large species is becoming increasingly difficult. Anthropogenic pressures continue to squeeze available habitat and force animals into degraded and disturbed areas. Ensuring the long-term survival of these species requires a well-developed understanding of how animals use these new landscapes to inform conservation and habitat restorati...

Estimating Divergence Time and Ancestral Effective Population Size of Bornean and Sumatran Orangutan Subspecies Using a Coalescent Hidden Markov Model

Due to genetic variation in the ancestor of two populations or two species, the divergence time for DNA sequences from two populations is variable along the genome. Within genomic segments all bases will share the same divergence-because they share a most recent common ancestor-when no recombination event has occurred to split them apart. The size of these segments of constant divergence depend...

Marked population structure and recent migration in the critically endangered Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii).

A multitude of factors influence how natural populations are genetically structured, including dispersal barriers, inhomogeneous habitats, and social organization. Such population subdivision is of special concern in endangered species, as it may lead to reduced adaptive potential and inbreeding in local subpopulations, thus increasing the risk of future extinctions. With only 6600 animals left...

Fatal Metacestode Infection in Bornean Orangutan Caused by Unknown Versteria Species

A captive juvenile Bornean orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) died from an unknown disseminated parasitic infection. Deep sequencing of DNA from infected tissues, followed by gene-specific PCR and sequencing, revealed a divergent species within the newly proposed genus Versteria (Cestoda: Taeniidae). Versteria may represent a previously unrecognized risk to primate health.
